RIP to the legendary Michael Jackson

I’m not sure who your music icons and influences were while you were growing up but this man made me a fan of R&B music as a child. Before I fell in love with hip hop music, I was the lil’ light-skinned kid who wanted to be as cool as Michael Jackson back then. I used to see how girls my age and even my own mama and aunts fall head over heels when this brother was on TV or the radio. It’s hard not to love someone’s music when you grew up seeing your family doing the dance moves and blasting the music nonstop for hours on end. Although I didn’t have the Beat It/Thriller jackets like others kids my age, I can hilariously admit to having that god awful jheri curl like the rest of the Moye/Harper family. . I remember the Moonwalker video game…that was unreal for someone to reach that level back then. Hell, my parents used to make me do my Michael Jackson routine at every family gathering during the Thriller era. Sure I made my jokes about his bizarre ways years ago but Michael Jackson showed me early in life that good music could reach people of every race, creed, color, and background. I hate to sound like the old school uncle who constantly tells you that you had to “experience” it to understand but words can’t express how his music affected me as a youngster. Just wanted to speak my peace and pay respects to a legendary artist who left us with a legacy of great music and memories. Rest In Peace!
