Thanks to the homie Subcon, I’ll be back in Denver at the Walnut Room on April 9, 2010. This will be a rare show because I’ll be performing songs from my entire catalog including 7 Years of Bad Luck. If you’ve been to one of my past shows in recent years, you know I hardly ever touch songs from that album. Click here to peep the flyer for the full lineup. It’s only $10 to buy tickets in advance at the Walnut Room’s website. Tell a friend to tell a friend… it’s going down in Denver!!!
While in town, I’ll be shooting scenes for a music video from a song that I recorded with Subcon a few months ago. The video is expected to be animated in the same vein as this video so I’m excited about it. I’ll make sure to post up the final video as soon as it’s done. Also shout out to the Denver homies: Mane Rok, Es Nine, and MissLadyJ (Jessica).
Today, the good folks at Allhiphop.com premiered the music video for my 2nd single, Splitting Image. The song was produced by Symbolyc One (S1)of Strange Fruit Project and also features the lovely Dutch singer, Neenah on the hook (although she isn’t featured in the video). The video was directed by Matt Koza of HOJ Media and also co-stars, Sudan Green (the son of famed spoken word poet Ursula Rucker) who plays the younger version of me in the video. I gave Matt Koza the original idea for the video treatment and he added his own ideas to make it work as well. This is my favorite video to date and Matt Koza is a phenomenal director. I wanted it to document my real life story of becoming a father at 16 and show the pressure I was facing at the time. I couldn’t even take care of myself when I brought my first daughter into the world. It’s a way of showing younger people that your life isn’t over when you make a bad decision but it means you’ve got to work twice as hard at your dreams. Hopefully someone will feel inspired by it. Thanks to everyone was involved in the making of this video.
*Edit: We tried to post this embedded link from AllHipHop but it wasn’t working so we uploaded it to our Reform School Music page on Youtube.com.
I finally received the confirmation and details for the SXSW performance. This will be my first year attending the music festival so I’m hoping that it’s worthwhile. There’s so many other shows going on that night in Austin but I plan on doing my thing regardless. I will be performing on Thursday, March 18 at The Independent. The lineup and performance times are listed on the flyer above.
