No stranger to bad luck and hardships, Greenvile, North Carolina native Supastition has managed to use those setbacks as inspiration to create his own vibe of emotionally-driven hip hop. After brief yet unsuccessful stints in 2002 with indie label Freshchest Records as well as Rasco’s Pockets Linted Entertainment, Supastition’s turning point came when his collaboration with producer Nicolay was hand-selected by the staff at Okayplayer.com out of over 5,000 contestants to appear on the Okayplayer Records compilation. His song entitled “The Williams” received critical praise as one of the standout tracks on the album and hip hop heads worldwide began noticing Supa and his knack for making honest music that the average person could relate to.
After interest from several labels, Supastition signed with indie label Soulspazm Records and released his follow-up “The Deadline” EP which served as a predecessor to his sophomore album “Chain Letters”. The lead 12’ single from the EP, “Boombox” (produced by Illmind) , reached #2 on national college radio charts and received acclaim from veteran DJs such as Revolution, Faust & Shortee, and Rhettmatic. Supastition shortly followed Chain Letters as well as making guest appearances on both mixtapes by Atlantic Recording artists Little Brother and albums by the legendary KRS One. Magazines such as URB, Elemental, XXL , and Scratch Magazine have praised Supastition with high ratings and honorable mentions. Supastition's music has been featured on MTV2 specials and recently included on the Scion mix cd "Across the Pond" hosted by Nicolay. Supastition's single "Boombox" reached #3 on national college radio (CMJ) in 2004 and his follow-up single "Hate My Face" reached #2 in 2005.
Spreading his name worldwide, Supastition headlined a European tour with Cesar Comanche (ABB Records) which reached countries such as Germany , France, Austria, Switzerland , and Denmark. He has also performed nationally headlining in Atlanta (MJQ), NYC (Knitting factory), LA (Zen Sushi), Las Vegas (Ice House Lounge), Chapel Hill, NC (Cat's Cradle), Philly (The Five Spot), Toronto (El Mocambo), Montreal (Concordia University), and other venues. Supastition was invited by ?uestlove to perform at the 2004 Okayplayer Tour live onstage with The Roots, Skillz, and Jean Grae. Supa has graced the stage with Little Brother, Aceyalone, Faust & Shortee, Cage, Sage Francis, J-Zone, and many more. He is also a frequent performer at the nationally known Beat Society producer showcase.
Soulspazm Records & Rawkus Records will be nationally re-releasing his critically acclaimed project, Chain Letters, on October 3, 2006. Supa is currently in the studio working on a full length album with his producer Illmind (G-Unit producer; featured in Scratch Magazine) in addition to working with Stoupe (Jedi Mind Tricks) , DJ Rhettmatic (Beat Junkies) , and others. Supastition is also preparing his untitled third solo release with production from beatmakers such as Illmind, Khrysis, Marco Polo, Rik Marvel, and DR.
